Liverpool in Print is a joint project between the Liverpool Record Office and the School of History, University of Liverpool. It is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, and runs from October 2006 to September 2009.
The project is directed by John Belchem, Professor of History at the University of Liverpool, and David Stoker, Manager of Liverpool Record Office. The project editorial team comprised Andrew Cheney, Graeme Milne and Joe Hilton, while the data-entry staff who input and checked the catalogue records were Paul Bruce, Jeanette Fry, Bernadette Kay and Helen Pickavance. Other members of Record Office staff have also contributed to the project at different times.
Liverpool in Print grew from the collaboration that produced the major anniversary history, Liverpool 800: Culture, Character and History, edited by John Belchem in 2006. It has two main aims:
More than seventy reading guides and commentaries are now available. These do not list every book or publication on a particular topic, but rather highlight the most important material for anyone starting out on research. The catalogue itself contains detailed references to tens of thousands of publications on all aspects of Liverpool’s history, which can be read in the Liverpool Record Office.
Both the catalogue and the reading guides will be available indefinitely as part of Liverpool Record Office’s suite of online resources, and will be the key finding tool for anyone researching Liverpool history.
